Delta IV maiden launch
November 20, 2002 - 5.39 PM: the Delta IV EELV roars into space placing in orbit the 7,000 lb. Eutelsat Satellite.  In 1998 Boeing awarded the team Pietro Carnaghi/Imta a contract to supply eight Vertical Turning Machines incorporating High Speed Milling capability for improved productivity.  The machines, installed at the Boeing Decatur, AL facility, are equipped with high speed milling heads with full contouring capability for the machining of the aluminum rings and domes of the fuel tanks.

The machines can produce parts up to 240" diameter and 140" tall. Pietro Carnaghi is the leading supplier of large turning/milling machine to the aerospace industry worldwide with machines dedicated as well for the production of jet engines. The combination of turning and high speed milling allows the production of rings and domes incorporating isogrid structure
